Ahsoka season 2 will arrive on Disney Plus on 20 January 2027, with Disney unveiling the first teaser during its D23 fan event in Anaheim, California.
The live-action series is Dave Filoni’s continuation of the animated Star Wars: Rebels. Its first season premiered three years before this announcement, ending with Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson, and her Mandalorian apprentice Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, stranded on the distant world of Peridia.
Grand Admiral Thrawn returns
Season 1 followed Ahsoka and Sabine as they searched Peridia for Ezra Bridger, the Jedi who vanished at the conclusion of Rebels. Ezra had been trapped there alongside Imperial officer Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen.
Both men escaped Peridia by the end of the season. Ezra was reunited with his surrogate mother, General Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but warned her that Thrawn had also returned. His enemy now possesses the power to endanger the New Republic.
Ahsoka and Sabine remained behind, where the second season will expand the story into a more cosmic direction. The teaser introduces the danger they will face while Thrawn’s return continues to shape the wider conflict.
Baylan Skoll’s search for ancient power
Ray Stevenson, who played the former Jedi Baylan Skoll, died after completing the first season. Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann will take over the role in season 2.
Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno, reached Peridia while working for Thrawn’s allies. However, Skoll’s personal ambition was always focused on finding an ancient power hidden on the planet. Hati showed less interest in that spiritual pursuit and instead assumed control of a bandit group.
The Mortis gods and the Force
The first season concluded with Skoll discovering statues representing the Mortis gods. These beings embody different aspects of the Force, setting up a mythological thread for the next chapter.
Ahsoka has a particularly strong connection to the Daughter, the Mortis god associated with the light side of the Force. Season 2 may require her to deepen that connection as she attempts to stop whatever Skoll intends to unleash.
A key test for live-action Star Wars
The announcement comes after a strong 2026 for Star Wars animation, including the stylish and story-rich series Maul: Shadow Lord and The Ninth Jedi. The franchise’s only live-action release that year, The Mandalorian and Grogu, received mixed reviews and failed at the box office.
With Ahsoka season 2 arriving on 20 January 2027 and Star Wars: Starfighter scheduled for 28 May 2027, both projects will help indicate what audiences want from the franchise. They will also test whether major live-action productions remain a worthwhile investment.
