After more than five years without a new A Court of Thorns and Roses novel, Sarah J. Maas has confirmed that two new journeys through Prythian are on the way. Her recent releases have instead centred on the Crescent City series, following 2021’s A Court of Silver Flames.

The sixth ACOTAR novel will be A Court of Splintered Harmony, scheduled for 27 October 2026. It will be followed by A Court of Forgotten Melody on 12 January 2027. The titles and covers were unveiled in consecutive Instagram posts, alongside digital billboard announcements in Los Angeles, Denver and New York City.

For readers discovering the series through its broader A Court of Thorns and Roses adaptation news, these books mark the beginning of a substantial new storyline rather than a short standalone detour.

The Valkyrie Cycle explained
The two announced novels launch The Valkyrie Cycle, which Maas has described as one continuous story. She discussed its unusual structure during a March appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
A Court of Splintered Harmony will contain the first movement. A Court of Forgotten Melody will contain the second and third movements, while a third book without a confirmed title will bring the larger story to its final movement.
- A Court of Splintered Harmony: 27 October 2026 — “What was broken will be remade.”
- A Court of Forgotten Melody: 12 January 2027 — “What was lost will be reclaimed.”
- Both novels form part of The Valkyrie Cycle.
- A third, currently untitled novel will complete the storyline.
What are the new ACOTAR books about?
The publisher’s descriptions identify Koschei the Deathless as the central threat across both instalments. In the first book, his influence begins to spread through the Fae territories while Prythian attempts to recover from the Hybern War.
Those recovery efforts are complicated by divisions within the Night Court, making a coordinated response to Koschei increasingly difficult. By A Court of Forgotten Melody, the alliances have weakened further: the Night Court’s Inner Circle is scattered, searching for an advantage against Koschei and his allies.
Old enemies are also returning, and the prospect of peace is becoming more uncertain. Maas has not yet confirmed which characters will lead the new novels, leaving that key question open for readers.

Both books are currently available to preorder through major retailers. Readers can find the publisher’s listings for A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody for the announced release information.
