Ace Attorney is returning, but Capcom is not announcing the long-awaited seventh mainline game. Instead, Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies will be rebuilt for virtual reality and released in 2027.
The project gives the fifth game in the courtroom-adventure series a first-person presentation designed for Meta Quest headsets. It will be the title’s fourth release since its original 3DS debut in 2013, and this version is described as a ground-up remake rather than a straightforward conversion.

A 3D game rebuilt for virtual reality
Dual Destinies was already a significant technical step for the franchise. It was the first Ace Attorney game to use 3D graphics, replacing the 2D and pixel-art approach associated with the series since its Game Boy Advance beginnings. The move introduced 3D character models and greater environmental interaction while keeping the visual-novel structure and courtroom-focused gameplay intact.
The VR remake appears to take that foundation considerably further. The courtroom has been redesigned around a first-person viewpoint, putting players directly in the position of Phoenix Wright and his fellow lawyers. During an objection, players will reportedly be able to make the gesture themselves by physically swinging an arm.
What the VR gameplay shows
Footage released so far focuses on courtroom sequences. These scenes include presenting evidence, challenging contradictions and questioning witnesses and suspects. The investigation sections that precede each trial have not been shown, so it remains unclear how those parts will be adapted for virtual reality.
That question matters because no other Ace Attorney game is currently available in VR. Dual Destinies may be a comparatively practical candidate for conversion because it was originally built in 3D, but the decision still arrives as a surprise for fans waiting for a new instalment.
Why this remake is divisive
The series has spent years in a cycle of remakes and rereleases following Ace Attorney 6, which launched in 2016. Many players would rather see that cycle end with Ace Attorney 7 than receive another version of an existing game.
The VR concept at least offers a new way to experience familiar courtroom scenes. Players can follow Phoenix Wright or Apollo Justice from a direct first-person perspective, without needing to spend years studying law. Whether that novelty is enough to satisfy fans remains uncertain. Some players are still asking why the choice was made to port the game to VR.
