Rockstar Games has revealed a US$400 collector’s box for Grand Theft Auto VI, but the set does not include the game itself. Instead, it combines Vice City-themed merchandise such as Oakley sunglasses, a shot glass, a vinyl statue and several smaller collectibles.

The announcement has divided the GTA community. While some fans appreciate the unusual presentation, many have criticised the cartoon-style artwork, the emphasis on an unseen in-game television show and the decision to sell the package without a copy of Grand Theft Auto VI.

What comes with the GTA 6 collector’s box?

Pre-orders opened on Thursday for the Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection” box. Rockstar says it will arrive on November 19, the same day as the game.

The merchandise is largely inspired by Macca the Gator, a fictional television show from the world of Leonida. The collection includes a pink alligator statue, enamel pins based on characters from the cartoon and a double-sided poster showing a Vice City map alongside figures from the programme.

Rockstar promoted the set through its official announcement, describing it as a premium collection of items inspired by Leonida’s popular TV show. The announcement can be viewed through Rockstar’s pre-order link and the accompanying product images.

Fans question the price and the missing game

The collection’s connection to a fictional show that players have not yet seen has made the concept difficult for some fans to embrace. The US$400 price has intensified that reaction, particularly because the box does not contain the game and does not centre on the main characters, Jason and Lucia.

Rockstar announced the collection on September 24, 2026. Responses included a blunt objection from GTA modder Ash, who asked why the game could not have been included at that price.

“Bros come on, could’ve included the game at least for that price.”

One Bluesky user argued that the entire GTA VI marketing campaign seemed designed for people who finance everything through Kalshi. The full comment is available here.

Other reactions were more direct. One user described the statue, hats and shot glass as poor value without the game, while another called the set “useless garbage” for US$400. A separate post asked whether Rockstar was serious about charging that amount for a package without GTA VI.

Several fans also said the collection was not worth buying even if they had been saving for a Rockstar collector’s edition. One response described the release as especially disappointing because it was the first time that fan had been able to afford one of the company’s premium editions.

Jason and Lucia were the characters fans wanted

Not every response rejected the merchandise outright. One fan said they liked the overall collection but would have preferred a Jason and Lucia statue. They also suggested using a less expensive sunglasses brand and adding a T-shirt, arguing that the price was the biggest problem with the set.

Another fan summarised the frustration with a simple comparison: “We wanted Jason and Lucia — and we got an alligator instead.”

That complaint reflects a broader expectation around premium game merchandise. Many fans wanted items tied directly to GTA 6 and its protagonists rather than cartoon characters from a fictional programme within the game. The Macca the Gator theme may make sense in Leonida’s world, but it does not yet carry the same recognition as Jason, Lucia or the wider franchise.

Will Rockstar release more GTA 6 merchandise?

Fans are hoping Rockstar eventually announces additional merchandise with a lower price or a stronger connection to the game. The company may have more GTA 6-themed products to reveal in the coming weeks, but there is currently no indication that the price of this collector’s box will be reduced.

The debate is a useful reminder that premium gaming merchandise has to balance novelty with recognisable characters and practical value. Just as buyers compare features carefully in an arcade machine buying guide, collectors will weigh the contents, design and price before committing to a limited set.

For players and collectors looking beyond licensed boxes, RETROCADE’s range of arcade machines offers a different kind of gaming-centred display piece—one built around playable hardware rather than merchandise alone.
