August has already delivered a strong run of releases across several genres, including the Soulslike Beast of Reincarnation, multiplayer game Big Walk, Kingdom Hearts-inspired adventure Duskfade and fighting game Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls.
The month is not finished yet. Before the busy autumn season brings games such as Grand Theft Auto 6 and Marvel’s Wolverine, 27 August begins a final burst of major summer launches. The weekend also brings new entries and collections from Elden Ring, Star Wars and Metal Gear.

New games launching on 27 August
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
The third game in the Plague Tale series takes a different approach from its stealth-led predecessors. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is set before the first two games and follows Sophia, the smuggler first introduced in A Plague Tale: Requiem.
Combat is more prominent this time, alongside platforming sequences. Sophia can also withstand three hits, a substantial change from the instant-death danger faced by Amicia in the earlier games. The result is a notably more action-focused Plague Tale experience.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches for PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass at launch.

Star Wars Zero Company
Star Wars Zero Company combines the tactical structure of XCOM with a Clone Wars setting. Players command Zero Company, a group of mercenaries recruited to defend the galaxy, under the leadership of Hawks, a disgraced Galactic Republic officer.
The game includes deep tactical decision-making and permadeath, while adding role-playing elements. Hawks can use the Den as a base of operations, meeting allies and working through conflicts within the group.
Star Wars Zero Company is coming to PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
Metal Gear and Elden Ring follow on 28 August
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 follows the first collection released in 2023. That earlier package included the first five mainline Metal Gear games, VR missions, motion comics, the NES version of Metal Gear and Snake’s Revenge.
The second volume adds the Game Boy Color title Ghost Babel, PlayStation 3 game Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and the PSP entry Peace Walker. It also contains the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, which documents the series through the release of Guns of the Patriots.
The collection will launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. Fans building a dedicated gaming setup can also explore RETROCADE’s range of arcade machines.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition arrives for Nintendo Switch 2 on 28 August, one day after the 27 August releases. The package includes Elden Ring, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, plus new equipment and customisation options.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters
Also launching on 28 August is Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, the latest game adaptation of the long-running manga and anime franchise. It features more than 110 playable characters, 22 national teams and a custom-player creation option.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
With fresh releases, major collections and an expanded edition of a landmark action RPG arriving within two days, the weekend beginning 27 August represents the closing surge of summer’s release calendar. It may also signal the start of an even busier autumn.
