CD Projekt’s upcoming The Witcher multiplayer project, known internally as Project Sirius, has been reduced again during development.

Nine members of the team were dismissed on August 12, 2026, while a further nine staff members are being given the opportunity to seek roles on other projects within the studio. The changes form part of a wider adjustment to the game’s development strategy.

What is Project Sirius?

Project Sirius was announced in 2022 as a new game from The Molasses Flood, the studio acquired by CD Projekt. Details remain limited, but the project has been described as combining a single-player experience with cooperative multiplayer in The Witcher universe.

The game was rebooted in 2023, when 29 developers were laid off. Public news about the project has been scarce since then, although recent internal progress was understood to have improved after changes made during the spring.

CD Projekt also hired acclaimed Destiny 2 writer Kwan Perng as a lead writer for the project.

Team size falls to 65

In a statement, CD Projekt confirmed that four employees in its Boston office and five in Warsaw had been let go. The company said nine additional staff members could apply for positions on other projects.

Before this latest reduction, 83 people were working on Project Sirius. The team now numbers 65. CD Projekt said:

“We adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development.”

The latest changes add another uncertain chapter to the project’s development. For more stories about the wider games business, visit RETROCADE’s Arcade Blog and browse our arcade industry videos. Readers planning a dedicated gaming setup can also consult the Arcade Machine Buying Guide.
