007 First Light will now launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in March 2027, after IO Interactive delayed the port for a second time. The exact release date has not been announced.
The James Bond adventure was originally expected to arrive alongside other versions in May. It was then moved to the third quarter of 2026 before this latest delay, leaving the Switch 2 edition almost a year behind its initial window.
In an update published on September 15, 2026, IO Interactive said the additional development time would be used to improve the game’s performance on Nintendo’s newer console.
IO Interactive said it understands that players have been waiting to experience Bond’s reimagined origin story on Switch 2. The studio also pointed to the positive response received by 007 First Light at Gamescom, describing it as evidence of progress across the wider game.
Hands-on reactions to a demo shown at last month’s gaming convention were broadly positive. However, some players had questioned how the game’s larger crowds and more complex environments would perform on Switch 2 hardware. The reaction from some Switch 2 owners to another major delay has not been great.
The delay is particularly notable because 007 First Light was among the first major Switch 2 ports confirmed for the system and has appeared regularly in Nintendo Direct presentations. Why the Switch 2 version needs more time
IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak previously said the game was running on Switch 2, but stressed that the team wanted to ensure it reached players in a suitably polished state. He said he did not want the Nintendo version to be regarded as an inferior release.
Abrak initially discussed a summer launch, later acknowledging that the timing would probably move towards late summer. He also promised to use his influence as chief executive to help deliver the port in strong condition, noting the special connection between Bond and Nintendo.
That approach has now resulted in a March 2027 target. The studio’s decision may disappoint players who expected to play the game sooner, but the extra time should give the team longer to refine performance, crowd-heavy scenes and more involved levels.
