007 First Light has reached 4 million copies sold since its May release, giving IO Interactive’s James Bond game a powerful commercial launch and making a follow-up appear increasingly likely.
No sequel has been formally announced. However, the result arrives as Amazon takes control of the James Bond game licence and considers the series’ next direction.
Amazon leaves the door open for IO Interactive
Comments from Amazon Games boss Jeff Gatis initially created uncertainty about whether IO Interactive would continue with Bond. Gatis later clarified that no decision is final, while indicating Amazon would probably want IO Interactive involved again given the success of 007 First Light.

What made 007 First Light stand out
IO Interactive brought its experience with environmental sandboxes and stealth-focused action into the Bond universe. The game’s large levels encourage exploration, while a bluffing system adds another way to inhabit the role of the famous spy.
Although it draws on the strengths associated with Hitman: World of Assassination, 007 First Light is not simply a reskin of that formula. It also takes cues from cinematic action adventures such as Uncharted, using major set pieces to deliver spectacle alongside its stealth systems.
As an origin story, the game presents its own interpretation of Bond and the surrounding characters rather than retelling the films. Patrick Gibson’s performance as Bond was also highlighted as a notable part of the experience.
More content is planned before any sequel
IO Interactive is continuing to support the current game while its longer-term plans take shape. A version for Nintendo Switch 2 is in development, although it does not yet have a release window.
The developer has also committed to a year of additional content. The announced plans include:
- New Game+.
- Additional Tac Sim challenges.
- A mission featuring Lenny Kravitz’s pirate lord character, Bawma.
