Robert Pattinson says production has restarted on The Batman Part II, with Steven Soderbergh joining the project to help Matt Reeves complete the sequel.

The film experienced an abrupt change in October after Reeves stepped away because of a family matter. Within weeks, Soderbergh was announced as the new director helping finish Reeves’ vision.
Pattinson described Soderbergh’s involvement as “completely selfless”. In comments shared with GamesRadar, the actor said filming was already underway and that he expected to return to set “in a couple of days”.
Soderbergh, known for films including Ocean’s Eleven and Magic Mike, is stepping in to support the existing creative direction rather than replace it. Pattinson said he was pleased that Soderbergh had joined to help Reeves and the team realise their shared approach.
Soderbergh previously praised Reeves’ work on The Batman as stunning, intentional, specific and rigorously coherent.
The production pause prompted concern among fans, particularly after the original film’s sequel had already faced several delays. The wider DC film slate has also changed substantially since James Gunn took charge of a new DC Universe, separate from Reeves’ Batman films.
Despite those changes, Pattinson and DC have maintained that the sequel would be released. With filming moving again, the current release date remains 18 February 2028.

What could The Batman Part II be about?

Story details remain closely guarded. Reeves has described his connected Batman films and The Penguin as part of a broader “Batman Epic Crime Saga”, suggesting the sequel may continue focusing on Gotham’s criminal and social problems rather than relying solely on extravagant supervillains.
The Court of Owls is widely speculated to feature, with production photos cited as support for that theory. Other images have reportedly pointed to Anarky, raising the possibility of a story about inequality in Gotham. That conflict could place Bruce Wayne’s position among the city’s wealthy elite directly against Batman’s role as a symbol supported by ordinary citizens.
Returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Barry Keoghan may also return as the Joker.
The sequel is also expected to introduce several new faces. Sebastian Stan is set to play Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson is reportedly attached as Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, and Charles Dance may portray Charles Dent, Harvey’s father.

While the film is still a long way from release, the resumption of production gives fans a clearer sign of progress. Australian collectors following screen and gaming culture can also explore RETROCADE’s arcade machines, including full-size cabinets suited to a dedicated games room.
