Splatoon Raiders is at its best when it keeps its missions varied. Some challenges run for nearly ten minutes while you fill a meter by defeating large numbers of enemies. Others are over in roughly one to four minutes, often taking the form of obstacle courses or multi-stage battles against several waves.
That variety gives the game a brisk arcade-like rhythm, something readers who follow our arcade news and gaming coverage will recognise. It also makes the lack of one simple feature especially frustrating: an instant retry option.
When a mission is already lost
There are plenty of moments when a failed attempt is obvious before the mission has technically ended. You might hear that only 10 seconds remain while having just 50 per cent of the eggs. Or perhaps you are racing away from snipers under a time limit, but are nowhere near safety as the final seconds disappear.
In those situations, the natural response is to pause, open a menu and choose Retry. That would let you restart from the beginning instead of spending more time inside an attempt that cannot realistically be saved.
Splatoon Raiders does not provide that option.
A small inconvenience that breaks the flow
At present, the alternatives are to fail the mission or leave it manually. After that, you must visit the rewards screen, return to the mission location, select the challenge again and sit through its cutscene before being placed back into the action.
None of this takes an enormous amount of time. It is a minor inconvenience rather than a serious design failure, and the structure does have a possible explanation. Failed missions still provide some rewards, so the game may be ensuring that those rewards are collected instead of disappearing when an attempt is abandoned.
Even so, a retry menu could handle both concerns. It could briefly display the rewards earned so far, allow a loadout change if needed, and then send the player straight back to the start. That would preserve the existing reward system without forcing a full trip back through the mission-selection process.
Awlmun Den needs it most
If a retry button cannot be added throughout the game, it would still be welcome in Awlmun Den. Repeating a failed challenge there means repeating the same exit, rewards-screen visit, return journey, mission selection and cutscene sequence.
The request is modest: let players restart immediately when an attempt is clearly going nowhere. Arcade games depend on keeping the action moving, whether you play on an upright arcade cabinet or a compact bartop arcade. Splatoon Raiders already has the short missions and quick decisions to support that pace; it just needs a retry button to match.
Come on, Nintendo.
