Slow Horses will return for an eighth season, with Apple TV confirming that production is due to begin soon. The renewal keeps the acclaimed spy drama’s unusually steady release pattern intact: the series has delivered at least one new season every year since 2022.
What we know about season 8
The eighth season will adapt Clown Town, the ninth and most recent novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House book series. The announcement follows the show’s latest Emmy success, with Saul Metzstein winning Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for season 5, episode 6, “Scars”.
Season 6 is scheduled to premiere on 16 September 2026, with its six-episode run continuing until 21 October 2026. Season 7 was announced in 2025 and will be based on Herron’s Bad Actors.
Apple TV’s synopsis teases a major clash between Jackson Lamb and Diana Taverner. After an unsuccessful attempt to blackmail the Park places Taverner on the offensive, Lamb must uncover one of MI5’s darkest secrets and stop the threat permanently.

What is Slow Horses about?
The darkly comic espionage drama follows a troubled group of British intelligence officers assigned to Slough House, an unwanted department within MI5. Its agents have been sent there after career-ending mistakes and are led by Jackson Lamb, a brilliant but abrasive officer played by Gary Oldman.
Although the team is treated as a dumping ground, its members repeatedly become entangled in dangerous intelligence operations. The series balances institutional dysfunction, sharp humour and conventional spy-thriller tension.
Oldman’s performance has earned widespread praise, including for Lamb’s deliberately revolting eating habits. All five released seasons have scored more than 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, while the show’s most recent three seasons have received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series.
Apple TV’s growing catalogue
The renewal arrives during a strong period for Apple TV. Widow’s Bay won 14 Emmys, described as the largest haul ever for a comedy series. The service has also confirmed that Silo will return for a fourth and final season less than a year after its third season concluded.
Other notable titles in the service’s catalogue include Pluribus, Severance, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Pachinko.
