Jeremy Saulnier, the filmmaker behind Green Room and Rebel Ridge, is returning with Slayground, an action thriller set around Halloween. A24 has released the first trailer, offering a glimpse of the film while keeping its central mystery largely concealed.
The story begins after a mass-casualty incident at a haunted attraction. From there, the film follows a manhunt for the person believed to be responsible. The trailer suggests that the investigation may be more complicated than it first appears.
Saulnier’s previous films, including Blue Ruin and Hold the Dark, are known for tightly controlled tension, sudden violence and unexpected turns. Slayground appears to continue that approach, with its haunted setting providing an especially confined backdrop for the pursuit.
What Slayground is about
A24’s synopsis centres on scare performer “Metal Mike” Graves. He wakes inside a haunted attraction surrounded by the bodies of his co-workers, with no memory of how the deaths occurred.
Scare-actor “Metal Mike” Graves wakes up in a haunted attraction surrounded by the dead bodies of his co-workers with no memory of how they got there. As a state-wide manhunt closes in, he races to uncover the truth – even if the trail leads straight back to him.
The film was previously known as October. Saulnier wrote and directed the project, which features Cory Michael Smith, Chase Sui Wonders, Sophie Wilde, James Badge Dale, Stanley Simons, Stephen Root, Chris Sullivan and Young Mazino.
Cast, music and release date
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are composing the score. Slayground is scheduled to arrive in Australian cinemas and elsewhere on 29 January 2027, with the theatrical release date given as January 29, 2027.
