The Slay the Spire 2 beta has received patch v0.110.0, bringing a broad set of balance adjustments, relic changes and bug fixes. It also attempts to rein in some of the excesses introduced by v0.109.0, although several changes may make Silent even more powerful.

Form cards now leave a permanent visual mark

Mega Crit has added a small but welcome visual feature. Playing a Form card, such as Ironclad’s Demon Form or Silent’s Serpent Form, now creates a lasting visual effect on the character. The update is highlighted in the patch notes, which show three characters with glowing effects.

The result is not quite as elaborate as the transformations the community has cooked up, but it gives these cards more visible impact during a run.

Relic adjustments include a major Toasty Mittens redesign

Most of the relic changes are modest buffs. Nonupeipe’s Fur Coat now reduces eight enemy combats to 1HP, rather than seven. Tezcatara’s Seal of Gold also becomes less punishing, reducing your gold by three per turn instead of five.

The most significant change affects Tezcatara’s Toasty Mittens. Previously, the Ancient relic automatically exhausted the top card of your draw pile at the start of each turn and awarded one extra Strength. That effect made it widely regarded as one of the game’s weakest Ancient relics, since the random card loss often outweighed the Strength gain.

Under v0.110.0, Toasty Mittens lets you select a card in your hand to exhaust each turn. You still lose one card from the turn’s resources, but the control makes the relic far more useful. It can counter Aeonglass by removing the Withers added to your deck, while also supporting Ironclad cards that activate when cards are exhausted.

Players have already highlighted the Fur Coat adjustment in discussions such as “The new Fur Coat buff is insane???”, posted by u/w-7 in the Slay the Spire community.

A card-pool bug and the Eidolon exploit are addressed

One easily missed fix changes card appearance rates. Uncommon cards should now appear slightly more often, as intended. Players who had been seeing unusually few uncommon cards were experiencing a bug rather than an especially unlucky run of randomisation.

The update also closes off a way to abuse the reworked Eidolon. After v0.109.0, players discovered that using two Eidolons in a deck could produce especially powerful interactions. Eidolon can no longer be generated during combat, making that setup harder to exploit.

Silent’s Haze and Outbreak changes reshape her builds

Silent receives the largest set of adjustments in this patch. The changes appear designed to reduce the strength of her Sly options without provoking the same backlash that followed earlier balance decisions. In practice, however, the new versions may shift power into other parts of her kit rather than substantially reducing it.

Haze has been rebuilt from the ground up. It is no longer a Sly card that applies four Poison to every enemy. It is now a non-Sly card costing two energy that applies four Poison and one Weak to all enemies.

Outbreak has also changed dramatically. The former one-cost Power dealt four damage whenever Poison was applied. It is now a three-cost Skill that applies nine Poison to all enemies and causes Poison damage to trigger immediately.

That immediate trigger can then be followed by another Poison damage trigger at the end of the turn. Early testing therefore suggests that Outbreak’s new form may be considerably stronger than its simpler description implies.

Two powerful Silent archetypes?

Rather than weakening Silent’s Sly strategy outright, v0.110.0 may leave her with two exceptionally strong routes. Sly remains highly effective, while the revised Poison tools now have substantially greater damage potential.

That balance question will be worth watching as the beta continues. For more updates across games and arcade culture, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.
