Samurai Shodown V Perfect is preparing for a Japanese location test, with new information confirming changes that distinguish this exA-Arcade version from the console release and existing MVS bootleg.
The test is scheduled to run from Thursday through the following Wednesday at two Japanese venues. Violence settings may be disabled at one or both locations, depending on operator preference. Further coverage is available on 4Gamer.net.

Overkill fatalities return
The major content change is the restoration of the violence, including the “Overkill” fatalities that were censored in earlier versions. They are intended to match their presentation in Samurai Shodown V Special.
Operators can switch the violence off if required. When enabled, this is expected to make Samurai Shodown V Perfect the most violent game currently available for the arcade market, although its content remains comparatively restrained beside many modern M-rated games.
New Shiroh Ohno artwork
Additional artwork by renowned artist Shiroh Ohno has also been shown, including posters planned for inclusion with the game. Ohno’s illustrations will appear beside the play area as well.

The game retains the original 4:3 display ratio. Rather than leaving black bars or filling the space with a logo, the side areas use character artwork that changes to match the fighter selected by the player.
These presentation choices should be particularly relevant when considering an arcade machine or upright cabinet for a home collection.

Balance, controls and performance updates
The press information outlines revised gameplay balancing, along with support for different Neo Geo button arrangements. Players will be able to select layouts associated with AES, standard MVS and non-standard MVS configurations.
The arcade edition is also designed for low input lag of approximately one frame, which should make it more responsive than the console version. Other reported refinements include a redesigned font, cleaned-up English text and completed storylines.
For owners planning a custom setup, arcade parts and arcade repair services may be useful when matching controls or maintaining older hardware.

Release timing remains unconfirmed
No specific release date has been announced, but the game is expected “soon” and is scheduled for release during the Japanese summer.
Potential pre-order editions have not been confirmed. However, exA-Arcade previously offered multiple kit choices for two CAVE releases, including limited editions with extra artwork and pop-up standees. Similar options could be considered for Samurai Shodown V Perfect, particularly as SNK is involved and SSVP pop-up materials have appeared at a recent Japanese event.
