Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Ghost Recon game is in development, marking a major announcement during the series’ 25th anniversary celebrations.

A new Ghost Recon project is officially underway
The announcement came during Ubisoft’s anniversary stream, where live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa said the team had been developing the next chapter for several years. She described the project as a fresh experience built around the series’ defining ideas: tactical action, large-scale operations, believable military storytelling and the Ghost Unit.
Ubisoft also invited players to register for the Ghost Recon Insider Program. Members may receive early access to future closed tests, although the publisher did not provide a testing schedule.

What we know about the mystery game
The reveal was notably light on specifics. There was no trailer, screenshot collection, key art or final title, so the game’s release plans and platforms remain unconfirmed.
Leaks have linked the project to the codename Project OVR and suggested that development has faced difficulties over several years. Those reports claim the new entry could move away from the open-world looter-shooter structure used by more recent games, returning instead to a grounded tactical-shooter format. A first-person viewpoint has also been reported.

Until Ubisoft shares more, these details should be treated as unconfirmed. The official announcement establishes the project’s existence, but not its identity beyond its connection to Ghost Recon.
Ghost Recon Wildlands receives The Last Rites
The anniversary presentation also delivered a substantial update for Ghost Recon Wildlands, originally released in 2017. Called The Last Rites, the update is available now and adds a new mission.

Players can now adjust a broad range of gameplay settings, including enemy behaviour, time of day, weather and damage values. The update also introduces 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on current-generation consoles.
To coincide with the anniversary, Ghost Recon Wildlands is free to play from 6 to 10 August.

Why the direction matters
A return to slower, more deliberate tactical action would represent a clear change from the recent looter-shooter approach. For players who enjoy careful positioning, squad coordination and military-focused scenarios, the reported direction will be worth watching as official information emerges.
Those ideas also connect with the hands-on appeal of dedicated shooting setups. RETROCADE’s arcade light guns and broader arcade machine range offer different ways to build a home gaming space, while the Arcade Blog covers more gaming and arcade news.

What happens next?
For now, the next Ghost Recon has a confirmed existence but no announced name, trailer, launch window or detailed feature list. Ubisoft’s Insider Program is the clearest route to potential closed tests, while further news will determine whether the leaked Project OVR details reflect the finished game.
Watch the anniversary stream for the full presentation, and keep an eye on RETROCADE’s arcade videos for more industry coverage.
