Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is nearing its 6 August launch, and Arc System Works has released a final trailer to set the stage. The story centres on the Champion of the Universe, who organises a tournament to determine Earth’s fate. The preview also revisits the 20-character roster and confirms a story mode written by comic author Kieron Gillen, known for Once & Future, Die, Young Avengers and Uncanny X-Men.

Deadpool steals the spotlight
Deadpool gets plenty of attention in the new footage, delivering a stream of fourth-wall jokes while pointing out the visual chaos of a four-versus-four battle. One gag sees him adopt a Dragon Ball-style power-up pose that recalls Cell’s memorable introduction in Dragon Ball FighterZ, another Arc System Works production.
The trailer also introduces Battle Arcadia, a party-focused side activity that appears comparable to Grand Bruise in Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Across the main fights and this additional mode, the presentation makes a strong case for the game’s blend of comic-book artwork and anime-inspired design.
Beta feedback remains divided
The trailer follows the game’s beta weekend, which produced a mixed response from fighting-game players. Animation, music and the overall visual identity received widespread praise. Magik was especially popular: Arc System Works’ interpretation of the character was the most-played fighter among the 16 available during the test, out of the planned 20-character roster. Players also responded positively to the cast’s distinctive abilities.
The PC version, however, drew severe criticism. Even reasonably powerful computers struggled to run it smoothly, causing problems during online matches. Some testers also found the combat unusually sluggish, with slower movement and attacks than are typical for tag-based fighting games. Arc System Works has said it will work on the PC issues, but the short window before launch leaves limited time for major improvements.
What arcade fans can watch for
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is shaping up as a character-driven fighter with a large-team format, a substantial story campaign and a colourful presentation. Players will soon find out whether the final release can match the trailer’s style while addressing the performance and pacing concerns raised during the beta.
