James Gunn rejects Milly Alcock Supergirl rumours
James Gunn has directly dismissed claims that Milly Alcock has been removed from her role as Supergirl, calling the speculation false and pushing back on several rumours surrounding upcoming DC projects.
The statement arrives as Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran continue shaping the studio’s new film and television universe. The wider DC slate has faced close scrutiny from fans, particularly after speculation about the direction of the franchise.

Why the Supergirl rumours started
The latest claims followed Alcock removing references to the DC Studios film from her Instagram account. That relatively ordinary social-media change quickly led to suggestions that she had been fired, recast or had left the DC universe.
There was no supporting evidence for those conclusions. Gunn addressed the story on Threads, where he described the Alcock report as “BS”. He added that the other rumours being discussed “couldn’t be more false”.
“Oh brother. You guys just have to stop listening to BS, and I’m mostly done shooting down rumors as there are so many, and I’m not on here much. But all three of these couldn’t be more false.”
Gunn addresses several DC claims
Gunn’s response covered three separate stories. One claimed Matt Reeves was no longer directing The Batman Part 2. The source material states that Reeves remains attached, although Steven Soderbergh is helping him complete filming.
Another rumour alleged that the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow had received a poor response at a test screening. Gunn rejected that claim as well, while noting that he was showing Peter Safran his first director’s cut a month earlier than expected.

Milly Alcock is still expected to return
Alcock remains set to play Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, in Man of Tomorrow next year. She is due to appear alongside David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The announced cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern and Adria Arjona, reportedly as Maxima. Some rumours have instead suggested Arjona could play Wonder Woman.
Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard and Sinqua Walls have also been cast in roles that have not been specified.

What happens next for Supergirl?
A more likely explanation for Alcock’s social-media cleanup is that she has finished promoting Supergirl and no longer wants the film to dominate her profile. The change alone does not indicate a casting departure.
Supergirl is currently streaming on HBO Max. Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 9 July 2027.
