Successful indie studios are increasingly using the money from breakout games to support other developers. Aggro Crab, the team behind Another Crab’s Treasure, has launched its own publishing label, Aggro Crab Presents.
The studio is following a growing movement of independent developers taking their success and paying it forward. Innersloth, the creator of Among Us, established Outersloth as a publishing partner for indie games. Following the success of Palworld, PocketPair also started its own publishing company.

Why indie studios are moving into publishing
This shift comes as the games industry continues to face a serious labour crisis. Developer-led publishing offers a possible alternative to traditional deals, with newer companies often aiming to provide fairer contracts and allow creators to retain a larger share of their game’s profits.
That approach may also reduce the risk of a familiar industry pattern: teams being laid off soon after a game launches successfully. Smaller publishers cannot match the reach or budgets of major companies such as EA or Activision, but their projects can place greater emphasis on distinctive ideas, careful craft and enjoyable game design rather than broad mainstream appeal.
Aggro Crab Presents signs its first game
Aggro Crab says its publishing label will take an active role in the projects it supports. The company plans to become involved in development, while making one position especially clear: it does not want “generative AI slop” in the games it signs.
The label has already announced its first project, Rebounder, a precision platformer scheduled to launch sometime next year. You can find the game on Steam.
