After almost a decade of recording new performances for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, the cast of Final Fantasy VII Revelation has reached its final sessions. Footage shown at a New York City Comic Con panel captured both the playful atmosphere and the emotional weight of that farewell.

The behind-the-scenes video featured several of the trilogy’s principal performers as they completed their work. Briana White and Britt Baron, the English voices of Aerith and Tifa across all three games, are visibly moved during parts of the recording process.

A social media post highlighted White and Baron becoming emotional during some of their last sessions, while noting that the footage also includes the cast’s lighter moments.

The material is not entirely sombre. In one of the more unexpected comic moments, Sephiroth discusses his favourite Doritos flavour: Cool Ranch. That contrast reflects the series’ familiar balance between dramatic scenes and deliberately silly character beats.

A new voice behind a familiar villain

Travis Willingham is also shown recording Sephiroth for the first time in Revelation. He is taking over the role because scheduling conflicts prevented Tyler Hoechlin, the original actor, from returning.

Seeing performers close out such a long-running project can make the production feel surprisingly personal. Regardless of how audiences feel about the remake trilogy’s creative choices, the actors have spent years carrying these versions of the characters, making the end of the recording process a significant moment.

When does Final Fantasy VII Revelation release?

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to conclude Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy on April 8. The extent of its differences from the original game remains unclear, particularly because the first two entries repeatedly shifted between following and reworking the source material after the series began in 2020.

Aerith is also expected to remain an important presence. White’s continued involvement in the recording booth suggests the character still has a substantial part to play, despite the events at the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

For readers inspired to bring classic game culture home, RETROCADE’s arcade machines provide another way to celebrate the medium beyond the latest console releases.
