Final Fantasy 9 gets a 1,000-piece Denouement puzzle
Square Enix has announced Denouement, a 1,000-piece Final Fantasy 9 jigsaw puzzle measuring 20 by 29 inches. The artwork shows Zidane, Garnet and their companions gathered in front of the enormous Iifa Tree.
The puzzle is listed at $39.99 in the United States and £32.99 in the United Kingdom. Australian fans should check regional stock and shipping details before ordering, as the supplied store listings do not confirm local availability.
Denouement, along with the companion puzzles Integrity and Reclusion, forms part of the merchandise celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 2000 PlayStation role-playing game. The anniversary programme began with a dedicated website in March 2025 and continued beyond the game’s July anniversary.
Square Enix has also marked the occasion with a Timeless Tale vinyl release, a Vivi picture book, music boxes, plush toys, a Zidane action figure and other merchandise. For more gaming and industry coverage, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.
Why the Iifa Tree matters
Final Fantasy 9 begins with Zidane, a thief involved in the kidnapping of Princess Garnet as part of a neighbouring kingdom’s scheme. The situation expands into an international war and a plan to replace the souls of one world with those from another.
The Iifa Tree was created long ago to prevent Gaia’s souls from returning to the planet’s crystal, where they would ordinarily be reborn. Instead, the tree releases those souls through its roots as a mist. Kuja exploits that process to create black mages.
In the game’s late stages, the party reaches the tree and confronts its guardian, Soulcage, before facing Kuja and then Necron, a being determined to erase all life.
After the battles, the Iifa Tree collapses and the trapped souls are released. That resolution explains the puzzle’s title: a denouement is the point in a story where its major threads are brought together and resolved.
Two more puzzles complete the set
Reclusion focuses on Kuja inside the Iifa Tree alongside his Silver Dragon, a villainous creation designed to help the tree accelerate its handling of Gaia’s souls. Integrity features Vivi, the party’s black mage and one of Kuja’s early prototypes, looking up towards Zidane beneath a large moon.

Release timing and other merchandise
Pre-orders were open on the United Kingdom store for a November 2026 release, although Square Enix noted that the release date and piece count could change. The United States listing stated that Denouement was sold out while awaiting further updates.
The United States store also listed Reclusion and Integrity at $39.99 each. Other anniversary products included a foil-stamped Denouement playmat for $39.99, a holofoil Ultra PRO playmat for $36.99 and music boxes priced at $25.99 each.
For arcade owners who enjoy maintaining their own setups, RETROCADE’s arcade parts collection covers practical repair and replacement needs. The Iifa Tree may fall in the game, but this version is designed to be rebuilt one piece at a time.
