Twenty-seven years after players first entered Norrath, EverQuest Legends is still building its version of the classic online role-playing world. Developer Game Jawn is planning new zones, revised rewards and a major Kunark expansion.

The project is designed around the atmosphere of the original game while adding new content for modern players. Executive producer David Youssefi and lead content designer Eric Wellman have described the goal as recovering the distinctive art, music, spell effects and sense of place that defined EverQuest.
That approach places Legends among a small group of subscription-focused online RPGs revisiting the strengths of an earlier era. For background on the genre’s influence, read about the MMO that started it all.
New zones lead into Kunark
Game Jawn’s next major sequence of updates begins with Lake Neriuss and Nektropos Castle. The areas are scheduled for an October update, with Lake Neriuss intended for lower-level characters and the castle aimed at experienced adventurers.

Nektropos Castle will be familiar to some players because it originated in EverQuest 2. In Legends, the surrounding trading hub is overseen by Lord Everling, while access to the castle requires players to complete quests and overcome the heavily guarded entrance.

The castle will also receive its own loot tables. Youssefi believes the original game’s itemisation could be repetitive, particularly in dungeons where equipment often offered little more than a small armour-class increase. Game Jawn is therefore creating more distinctive rewards, with selected ideas from EverQuest 2 serving as inspiration rather than a direct template.
Rulers of Kunark is planned for December
The largest announced addition is Rulers of Kunark, scheduled for December. It will bring the continent first introduced in the original Ruins of Kunark expansion in 2000 to EverQuest Legends.
Before that expansion arrives, the game will add the Half-Dark Elf as a playable race, along with a dedicated starting zone. The scale of this work has affected the wider roadmap: Rujarkian Hills, once planned for September, has been delayed until 2027.

Rujarkian Hills opens a long-closed route
Rujarkian Hills is a harsh, sandy region populated by Death Fist orcs and other wildlife. Unlike the more quest-focused additions, the zone is built around exploration and combat for higher-level characters.
The area has been visible on maps of Antonica, but the hills themselves have remained inaccessible. A route known as the “Orc Highway” appears to lead from the Oasis of Marr towards the region, while earlier versions of EverQuest explored caves beneath it.
Opening that route addresses a long-standing curiosity for players and gives advanced characters another experience zone. The team has acknowledged that Legends needs more content for this level range, particularly for players who have already exhausted its existing challenges.

A large world still has room to grow

At 64 hours, there is still plenty of Norrath left to explore. Raids and demanding areas such as The Hole are only beginning to open up, leaving room for players to progress without immediately running out of objectives.
That pacing is part of the appeal. The game already contains memories and expectations built across decades of additional content, but its current roadmap means players can experience the world while it continues to expand.
For an Australian gaming setup, a dedicated arcade machine can make long-form RPG sessions part of a broader games room, while an arcade bartop suits smaller spaces. Retrogaming fans can also browse the wider RETROCADE arcade blog for more industry and gaming coverage.

Even the developers’ personal goals suggest how much content remains: one player has set himself the challenge of sitting in every Big Chair in the game. In a world this expansive, that is likely to take some time.
