Pixelity Inc., a developer based in South Korea, has revealed a debut trailer for Evangelion:Δ Cross Reflections, an ambitious virtual-reality project that reimagines the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion through a new alternate-timeline story.
First announced in early 2025, the project is planned as a trilogy built around the events and setting of the original 1995 anime. Rather than recreating the series scene by scene, the games will introduce an original narrative in which players take the role of a new NERV trainee hoping to qualify as an Evangelion pilot.
The planned experience will include large-scale battles against Angels, familiar locations from across the franchise and a cast combining returning figures with newly created characters. For Australian arcade enthusiasts interested in immersive hardware, the project also highlights how arcade and gaming news continues to expand beyond traditional cabinets.
A first look at the alternate Evangelion story
The first trailer is presented as a 2D-animated preview of scenes that players may encounter in the finished game. It opens with a new character addressing the player as damaged vessels crash down onto a nearby street.
Other glimpses show the player running through NERV headquarters, repairing vehicles and an Evangelion, practising at shooting ranges, trimming hedges and sharing cake with Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley. The trailer does not explain how these sharply contrasting moments connect, but the variety suggests that the game will explore more than familiar Angel battles.
Several characters and Angels will be recognisable to long-time fans, while the alternate setting gives Pixelity room to introduce different circumstances and relationships. That balance between established elements and new material appears to be central to the project.
The teaser was first shown at a hands-on preview event in San Francisco before being released more widely on 29 September 2026. The official announcement used the hashtags #エヴァンゲリオンXR and #CrossReflections.
Evangelion has a long history of alternate realities
This is not the first time the franchise has used an alternative version of its story. Numerous PC and console releases in the late 1990s took the series in different directions, including dating simulations. The Rebuild of Evangelion films also offered a distinct interpretation of the original narrative.
Virtual reality has already been part of the franchise’s history, with an earlier experience allowing participants to step inside an Eva and fight an Angel. A Japan-only VR experience provided that more focused form of immersion; Evangelion:Δ Cross Reflections is aiming for a much broader adventure.
Release plans for the VR trilogy
The first game is scheduled for release in 2027, while the remaining two entries are planned for later dates. No additional release details are provided here.
The project arrives as the franchise looks for fresh directions after the conclusion of the Rebuild of Evangelion films and creator Hideaki Anno’s direct involvement with that series. Alongside a planned anime television project written by Yoko Taro, this VR trilogy points to an ongoing willingness to explore new interpretations of the Evangelion universe.
For readers comparing immersive entertainment with conventional arcade machines, arcade light guns and other dedicated setups, the project is a notable example of a major anime property being developed around virtual reality from the outset.
