Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, returning viewers to Night City for another 10-episode story. While the second season’s connections to Cyberpunk 2077 are generally understated, one recognisable face makes a return: Hideo Kojima’s in-game likeness.

Kojima appears in Cyberpunk 2077 as Hideyoshi Oshima, a braindance producer encountered during “The Heist” quest. V can spot him speaking with other guests at Konpeki Plaza while surveying the hotel before the job. Oshima’s appearance closely matches Kojima, making the cameo easy to identify for players familiar with the influential game director.

Kojima is best known for directing the Metal Gear series and Death Stranding. He is also attached to Physint, an upcoming Xbox-led project.

Six years after that game appearance, Hideyoshi Oshima shows up again in Edgerunners 2. The cameo was confirmed by CD Projekt Red as the season’s review embargo lifted, confirming that Kojima had returned to Night City in voice-and-likeness form.

“Spotting a familiar face, chooms? 👀”

“You may remember seeing him in Konpeki Plaza during The Heist in 2077. Now, the renowned braindance director is making another appearance in Night City.”

The returning character is only one part of the sequel’s relationship with Cyberpunk 2077. The new season does not appear to rely heavily on cameos, but it includes meaningful links to wider Night City storylines explored in the game.
