Dragon Ball fans have finally received a glimpse of Vegeta’s mother—although Toyotarou’s new artwork keeps her identity deliberately obscured.
Vegeta’s family gains another mystery
Vegeta has become one of the franchise’s central characters, yet his family history still has unexplored corners. His father, King Vegeta, has appeared in stories set before the destruction of Planet Vegeta, while his brother Tarble was introduced in Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends!
His mother, however, had never been shown. That changed—at least partially—with new artwork created to celebrate a fan-voted Dragon Ball Super manga cover.
The artwork behind the reveal
The official poll asked fans to choose their favourite Dragon Ball Super manga cover, with volume 19 taking first place. Its cover depicts Goku walking with his family, while Bardock and Gine appear in a puddle’s reflection. The reverse side uses a similar composition for Gohan’s family, showing Goku and Chi-Chi in the water.
To mark the result, artist Toyotarou drew a new image focused on Vegeta and his relatives. The reflection includes King Vegeta, Vegeta, Tarble and a fourth figure hidden beneath the King’s cape, as described by the official Dragon Ball site.
The concealed character is not named, but the family arrangement strongly suggests that she is Vegeta’s mother. Only a small section of her clothing and the top of her head can be seen. The visible hairline appears to sit beneath a crown or similar headpiece.
“There’s a character that gave me some issues, though,” Toyotarou said while discussing the composition. He added that he believed he had managed to keep the character’s identity secret.
Who is Vegeta’s mother?
Officially, almost nothing is known about Vegeta’s mother. She remains unnamed and has not appeared in the story beyond this limited glimpse. She was the Queen of the Saiyans before Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta and killed almost the entire Saiyan population.
That history leaves room for fan speculation about her fate, particularly in a series where surviving Saiyans have continued to emerge when the story requires it. For now, though, the image provides a visual hint rather than a confirmed biography. Very little is known about the Saiyan queen.
What comes next for Dragon Ball Super?
The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since Akira Toriyama’s death in 2024. A one-shot was released in 2025, but there has been no official announcement confirming when—or whether—the manga will return.
More animated Super material is planned, including The Galactic Patrol series and a Beerus reboot scheduled to premiere sometime this year. Whether either project expands Vegeta’s family remains unknown.
