A human expedition is drilling into the nearby planet, hoping to discover how the base can remain in orbit without being pulled into the black hole. The mission takes a horrifying turn when the drilling awakens the Beast.

The story remains a significant chapter in Tennant’s time as the Doctor. Its threat challenges the Doctor’s faith and his understanding of himself as a Time Lord, while the remote setting creates an especially tense piece of science-fiction horror.
The episodes also introduced the Ood, an alien species that communicates telepathically. The Ood would go on to become one of the most recognisable additions to the modern Doctor Who universe.
This new cut restores deleted scenes that were previously available only on DVD. It also includes extended footage that has not been seen before, giving returning viewers additional material alongside the familiar story.
