Astarion’s next nightmare is a six-hour campaign
Astarion enters Baldur’s Gate 3 as a sharp-tongued vampire spawn carrying the trauma of 200 years under Cazador’s control. The game lets players shape his fate in several directions: they can encourage or reject his attempt to become a vampire ascendant, free the spawn imprisoned beneath Cazador’s mansion or leave them behind, and earn enough trust for Astarion to reveal his past on his own terms.
A Dream of Silence: ReVamped takes that moral tension and makes it the centre of an entirely new three-act adventure. Created by modder lizardphunk, the campaign adapts Abigail Corfman’s interactive-fiction game A Dream of Silence for play inside Baldur’s Gate 3.
A shifting version of Cazador’s mansion
The mod places the player and Astarion inside a changing nightmare maze based on Cazador’s mansion. A creature called a Bastellus builds these nightmares from a person’s worst memories, turning the setting into a psychological trial rather than a straightforward dungeon.
The campaign includes six new characters, among them several vampire spawn, and offers four possible outcomes for Astarion. Those conclusions range from devastation to redemption, with the player’s decisions determining whether the pair emerge closer or suffer consequences that cannot easily be undone.
The project expands on the systems used by Corfman’s original interactive-fiction game. There, the player exists inside Astarion’s mind as an incorporeal presence, carefully dividing a limited energy supply between Speech, Touch and Sight to keep him connected to reality. An IFDB review described Astarion as isolated and gradually losing himself when help fails to arrive.
Exploration, hidden interactions and difficult choices
A Dream of Silence: ReVamped carries that resource-management idea and emotional pressure into the full role-playing game. Players can find concealed interactions tied to particular in-game days, search for weapons that were previously inaccessible and, with enough exploration, meet a new feline NPC that can be petted.
The story is designed to test every version of the player’s relationship with Astarion. A romance can be placed at risk or made more meaningful, while an evil playthrough may produce consequences that are difficult to ignore. The central question remains whether Astarion should be rescued, betrayed or left to face the nightmare alone.
PC requirements and installation notes
The campaign is installed through Nexus Mods rather than the in-game mod menu. It requires approximately 1.3GB of storage and currently works only on Windows PC. Players cannot choose Origin Astarion for this adventure; another character must be selected so the story’s betrayal route remains possible.
There is no voice acting. That omission is intentional: the modder has stated that existing actor performances should not be reused for dialogue that was never recorded for the project, whether or not artificial intelligence is involved.
A different kind of Baldur’s Gate 3 side story
Completing the roughly six hours of custom content can lead to a fight through Szarr Mansion, provided the dice cooperate. By the end, players will have faced choices that the original campaign does not offer, with four possible outcomes shaping Astarion’s fate.
