Ubisoft pauses new Assassin’s Creed remakes
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of the 2013 pirate adventure, has revived interest in Ubisoft’s approach to older games. In 2024, CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that players could expect more remakes, describing them as an opportunity to modernise past releases. Guillemot’s comments raised expectations that further projects might follow.

That possibility now comes with an important qualification. Ubisoft has confirmed that no other Assassin’s Creed remake is currently in active development. The statement narrows the immediate remake outlook, although it does not rule out future returns to the series’ older adventures.
For Australian players following the franchise, the announcement means the company’s confirmed focus is on new projects rather than another announced remake. Ubisoft said its teams are working on the next chapter of the series, including games with settings and stories that have not yet been revealed.
The door remains open for classic Assassin’s Creed games
Ubisoft also made clear that the absence of an active remake does not represent a permanent decision. The company said it understands the appeal of revisiting its classic catalogue and will continue examining opportunities to bring older titles back, whether through remakes or rereleases.
That leaves room for future announcements, but there is no additional remake in active production at present. The company ended its statement with the series’ familiar maxim: “Nothing is true, everything is permitted.”

What Ubisoft is developing next
Several other Assassin’s Creed projects remain in development. Assassin’s Creed Invictus, a player-versus-player multiplayer game, recently held a private playtest involving hundreds of players.
Ubisoft said the response to the return of competitive multiplayer was very positive. Testers wanted more of the features and ideas that define Assassin’s Creed, and the development team has spent months responding to that feedback.
Codename Hexe is also progressing. Ubisoft described the project as a darker entry that is making steady progress, but said a major update will not arrive until sometime in 2027.

The cryptic message appeared without an explanation, giving fans plenty of scope for theories. The franchise will mark its 20th anniversary next year, with Ubisoft promising to share more details about its celebrations in the coming months.
