Modern Warfare 4 DMZ traits can give your operator a major advantage in Hajin, particularly when a powerful option appears in the right skill tree. Each tree contains six fixed major traits, shown with larger symbols. The smaller minor traits appear in a random order, although each remains tied to its designated tree.

That randomness means no single list can tell you which traits will appear in every deployment. Instead, treat the following upgrades as high-priority choices whenever they become available. For more gaming and arcade news, explore the RETROCADE blog.

Possum (Warfighter)

Possum is a major Warfighter trait on the final row, and it may be one of the strongest upgrades in DMZ. It allows your operator to revive after being killed, not merely recover from a standard downed state.

After an enemy finishes you, you can activate Possum and return to the downed, or last-stand, state. If you have a healing item, you can treat your wounds and move again. Returning to a corpse that has already been looted can leave you short on equipment, but an untouched body creates an excellent opportunity to surprise opponents who believe the fight is over.

Plate Speed (Scout)

Plate Speed is a random minor trait in the Scout tree. If it appears, select it: applying armour plates normally leaves you vulnerable for a frustrating amount of time, while this upgrade significantly shortens the animation and lets you restore protection more quickly during combat.

Fast Learner (Warfighter)

Fast Learner is another minor Warfighter trait. Its stated effect is to slightly increase operator experience gain. The precise increase is not specified, but faster experience progression helps you earn additional traits, making this a sensible choice whenever it appears.

Overwatch (Scout)

Overwatch is a major Scout trait on the final row. Once you activate a UAV tower in Hajin, its effect never expires. That provides a permanent view of enemy positions on your minimap while you remain within the tower’s usefulness.

There is also a tactical deception benefit. Other players generally assume an active UAV tower means someone is nearby because it has only recently been activated. Even after you leave, the tower can make opponents search an area where you are no longer present.

Expedited Extraction (Survivalist)

Calling an exfil can take longer than expected. The flare must deploy, the pilot must arrive and descend, boarding triggers another five-second countdown, and the aircraft can still be attacked during its ascent.

Expedited Extraction is a minor Survivalist trait that makes extractions arrive much faster. In a mode where every second can affect your chance of escaping with your gear, that reduction is valuable.

Impact Smokes (Survivalist)

Impact Smokes is a major Survivalist trait that automatically releases a smoke grenade when you are knocked down. It is less decisive in a quiet one-on-one encounter, but becomes far more useful in squad fights or when your opponent is also dealing with PvE enemies.

The smoke can conceal a crawl towards a teammate for a revive, or give you enough cover to apply a tourniquet, stand up and heal before the enemy locates you. For players interested in physical game-room setups, RETROCADE’s arcade light guns cover another kind of shooting-game hardware.

Quick Knife (Survivalist)

Quick Knife is a minor Survivalist trait designed for stealth. Instead of striking an enemy with the butt of your weapon, melee attacks use your knife automatically. This saves the time normally required to draw the knife and switch back to your firearm, which can be important when PvE enemies detect movement quickly.

Equipment Professional (Warfighter)

Equipment Professional is a major Warfighter trait on the first row. It automatically refills your tactical and lethal equipment slots after use, provided you have preferred grenade options equipped. That reduces inventory management during a fight and removes some of the need to search for replacement equipment while deployed.

Because minor traits are random and major traits are fixed within their trees, the best approach is to build around the opportunities presented by each operator. Prioritise these upgrades when they appear, then choose the combination that suits your squad, route and extraction plan.
