Sony is revisiting the see-through hardware trend with the PS5 Prism Collection, a range of transparent DualSense controllers and matching console covers in three distinctive colour treatments.
The designs combine translucent plastic with a metallic centre section, giving the accessories a view of the technology inside while retaining the clean, coordinated appearance associated with the PS5 generation. It is a design choice that should appeal to anyone who enjoys the visual character of classic arcade and gaming hardware.
The three finishes are named Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Despite the grey name, the final option includes cool blue-toned highlights. The transparent material also changes the appearance of the colours where layers overlap: orange takes on a rosy tint, green gains extra depth and the storm-grey finish delivers a cooler overall look.
Each Prism Collection DualSense controller will cost $85, while the PS5 console covers are priced at $75. Sony has not described these as a new console model; they are accessory designs for existing PS5 hardware.
Pre-orders open through the PlayStation Store on 10 November at 10 a.m. local time. Buyers will need to wait until 4 February 2027, when the accessories are scheduled to begin shipping.
Sony designer Leo Cardoso said the collection was created in response to sustained interest in transparent controllers. The aim was to bring back the late-1990s see-through style with a more contemporary interpretation that suits the PS5’s industrial design. What the Prism Collection looks like
Designer Satoshi Aoyagi explained that the clear, high-gloss finish runs across the rear of the controller, making the internal technology visible without abandoning the monochromatic styling. A metallic middle cover adds contrast between the surfaces and helps the accessories maintain a premium appearance.
Transparent shells have also appeared across recent gaming hardware, including translucent Xbox controllers and the green X25 anniversary console. The Analogue 3D and Mod Retro consoles have followed a similar path, showing that see-through materials remain a popular way to give familiar hardware a more distinctive identity.
