Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Actor Drew Fabio’s Voice from Scar

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has a large cast, but Fabio has quickly become one of its standout characters. The condescending scholar of uncertain origins serves as Dietrich’s right-hand man during the Heroic Games tournament.
Actor Jimmy Yamaguchi’s performance combines sharp humour with genuine feeling. He has now explained that Fabio’s distinctive delivery was partly shaped by Jeremy Irons’ performance as Scar, the scheming villain from Disney’s The Lion King.
How Scar influenced Fabio’s voice
Yamaguchi described Fabio’s accent as closer to a mid-Atlantic sound than a clearly defined regional accent. In his interpretation, Fabio sounds like someone who has lived in several different places.
“His accent is actually probably more like a mid-Atlantic accent. Someone who has lived in multiple places. So it’s not distinctly anything. One of the inspirations, at first, was Jeremy Irons.”
Before recording the lines, Yamaguchi tested the approach by performing a quotation associated with Scar: “Well, I was first in line… until the little hairball was born.” That line comes from a tense exchange between Scar and his brother Mufasa, after Simba’s birth changes the succession to the Pride Lands.
Scar’s resentment eventually drives him towards increasingly ruthless actions as he pursues the throne. That mixture of superiority, bitterness and theatrical menace helped Yamaguchi find a starting point for Fabio, without making the two characters identical.
Yamaguchi appreciates Fabio’s reception
Yamaguchi has also voiced characters in Zenless Zone Zero, 2XKO and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. However, the response to Fabio from Fire Emblem fans has been especially meaningful to him.
“When you sit there and you read it… I think I started to tear up when I saw it. Because sometimes when you’re acting, you’re acting into the void, and you never necessarily get the response back.”
He said it meant a great deal to learn that players connected with the character, whether Fabio made them laugh, cry or feel happy. Yamaguchi thanked everyone who shared their appreciation for bringing the character to life.
