The announcement gives fans of the books, games and television adaptation another reason to keep an eye on the White Wolf’s next adventure. The wider franchise also has plenty ahead, including a remaster of The Witcher 3, the Songs of the Past expansion and The Witcher 4, which is expected sometime in 2028.

During a recent convention appearance in Poland, Sapkowski confirmed that he is working on the next book. Reports from Redanian Intelligence indicate that Geralt will once again be the central character.

Sapkowski has also said he does not plan to write future Witcher books focused on other characters such as Yennefer. That keeps the literary series firmly centred on Geralt, even as the games have explored a much larger cast.

For readers who also enjoy Witcher games at home, the series sits comfortably alongside other role-playing favourites featured in the RETROCADE arcade blog. A dedicated arcade machine can likewise give a gaming room a strong fantasy-adventure centrepiece.

Could the next book be another Geralt prequel?

Sapkowski’s most recent Witcher release was 2025’s The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens. That book followed a young Geralt during his first major adventure as a witcher, leaving plenty of unexplored time between his early career and the main novels.

Geralt is already middle-aged during the short-story collections and novels, as noted in coverage of the character’s established age. That timeline leaves room for more stories about his formative years, although the new book’s exact plot has not been revealed.

In an interview with IGN, Sapkowski indicated that there is significant scope for additional prequels. He also said he is considering writing more short stories.

“Sky is the limit,” Sapkowski said when discussing the possibility of exploring more of Geralt’s early life.

Short fiction has always been important to The Witcher. The series began with a short story, followed by two collections before the first novel, Blood of Elves. Sapkowski has described short stories as particularly demanding, saying that producing a good one can be more difficult than writing a novel.

When could readers get the new Witcher book?

Sapkowski is aiming to finish the manuscript by the end of 2027. If that schedule holds, Polish readers could see the book in late 2027 or early 2028. International readers may need to wait roughly another year, based on the release pattern for Crossroads of Ravens.

There is no confirmed title, story summary or final publication date yet. The information currently available confirms only that Sapkowski is writing another Witcher book, that Geralt is expected to return and that completion is targeted for the end of 2027.

While fans wait, the Witcher games remain a natural fit for a dedicated gaming setup. Those planning a custom cabinet can compare arcade machine buying advice, explore compact bartop arcades or browse DIY arcade kits for a more hands-on project.
