Crimson Desert expansion Charting the Unknown is set to launch on 29 October across all platforms, following a short delay announced in late September. Pearl Abyss has now detailed the DLC’s broad collection of new systems, story content and endgame activities.

The expansion builds substantially on the open-world RPG released in March. Its headline additions include ocean exploration, underwater discovery, shipbuilding, romance, expanded housing and new post-game stories. Pearl Abyss has published the complete feature breakdown in its official Crimson Desert blog.

Ocean exploration and underwater discovery

The DLC’s name points to one of its largest additions: the Great Ocean of Pywel. Kliff, Oongka and Damiane can dive beneath the surface to search for ruins, treasure chests, new creatures and mounts. Diving does not require a special unlock, but underwater exploration consumes breath. Equipment such as a diving suit can extend the time spent below the waves.

Players can also construct a ship and sail between islands, with pirates providing an additional threat. The ocean questline becomes available after Greymane Camp has been established at Howling Hill and its related requirements have been met. A ship can be built by sending comrades on a shipbuilding dispatch mission from a port, or purchased from a Fleet Office manager.

Relationships, marriage and new stories

Some inhabitants of Pywel can now develop deeper relationships with the three playable characters. Building trust may lead to romance and marriage, while close companions can visit Greymane Camp and spend time there once the camp reaches the required upgrade level.

Charting the Unknown also adds three character-focused post-game storylines: one each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. These become available through the Journal after the main story is complete. A separate ocean storyline unlocks after completing “Howling Hill” from the main quest.

Complete Charting the Unknown feature list

Upgraded housing

  • The upgraded housing system lets players build a home from the ground up.
  • Access to the regular and upgraded housing systems follows the establishment of camp at Howling Hill and completion of Luke’s Request in the “Grounds of the Sunrise” Greymanes Faction quest.

Greymane Castles

  • Three castles can be claimed after the main story and relevant quests are completed.
  • Players must liberate each stronghold to unlock the missions that allow ownership, then decorate its courtyards and interiors with distinctive furnishings and objects.

Business management

  • Players can rent and operate businesses including a restaurant in Vellua and a smithy at Zargan Tankworks.
  • Facilities across Pywel become accessible from the world map after the required regional faction quest is completed and Greymane Camp has been established.

Garden of Trials

  • Garden of Trials is a combat challenge featuring consecutive battles against bosses encountered during the Pywel adventure.
  • It unlocks after the main questline is cleared and offers special rewards for completion.

Additional stories

  • Kliff, Oongka and Damiane each receive a new storyline, started from the Journal after the main story.
  • A further story centred on the ocean becomes available after the “Howling Hill” main-story quest.

Romance and camp life

  • Interactions with selected Pywel inhabitants can increase trust, leading to romance and potentially marriage.
  • Friends and companions may visit Greymane Camp and spend time there after the settlement reaches a specified upgrade level.

The expansion’s combination of exploration, settlement management, character stories and boss challenges gives the post-game a much wider scope.
