Disney and Hulu have confirmed that a new Glee series is moving forward, bringing the musical comedy-drama back more than a decade after the original series ended. Ryan Murphy, who had publicly discussed revisiting the franchise, will be involved.

The announcement arrived on Wednesday through the official Glee X account, which shared the message “Currently gleeking out” alongside an image confirming the revival. Fans can also find background on the series through this Glee reference page.
Talk of a return began in July, when Murphy told People that he was noticing many younger viewers discovering the show and wondering whether it should be revisited. In September, he revealed that he had completed a script for the proposed reboot.
What has been confirmed about the Glee reboot?
Details remain limited. Murphy is attached, while 20th Television, the studio behind the original programme, is producing the new series. The announcement does not yet explain the story, format or intended relationship between the new project and the earlier show.
The original Glee ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015. It became a major television hit despite often attracting criticism for its exaggerated and awkward moments. The ensemble included Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison and Heather Morris, among others. Several original cast members have since died.

Will the new series continue the original story?
No firm answer has been given, but Murphy’s comments suggest this may be more than a completely separate reboot. He said he had been in contact with about 10 original cast members, describing their response as enthusiastic despite their questions about the project.
That outreach could point to returning performers or story connections, although no cast members have been officially confirmed for the new series. For now, the scope of the continuation remains unclear.
Who is writing the Glee reboot?
Murphy is not working alone. Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, his fellow co-creators of the original series, also contributed to the reboot script. Their involvement gives the project a direct creative link to the earlier programme, though their final roles have not been fully detailed.
The revival may also appeal to viewers looking for another television musical after Schmigadoon! was cancelled.
