Wonder Woman gets a fresh creative lineup in 2027
DC has designated 2027 the Year of Wonder, promising a year of new stories from high-profile comic creators. The announcement arrives as Tom King and Daniel Sampere’s run concludes with Wonder Woman #40 in December.

Louise Simonson will write the next chapter, beginning with Wonder Woman #41. Cian Tormey will provide the artwork for the opening four-issue arc. Simonson’s credits include X-Factor, Conan the Barbarian, Power Pack and The Death of Superman.
Following that story, Eisner Award-nominated writer Stephanie Williams will take over with artist Elena Casagrande. Their six-issue run is scheduled to conclude in October 2027. Williams has previously worked on Wonder Woman, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Neither announced team is positioned as the series’ permanent creative group, and DC has not yet named a long-term replacement. The publisher says further Wonder Woman stories and major creators will be announced during 2027.

What happens in the upcoming comic arcs?

Simonson’s opening storyline follows Diana’s attempt to overturn the Amazon Safety Act, a law that has stopped Amazonians from leaving their island. The adventure will bring Wonder Woman together with Lois Lane, while Granny Goodness and the Female Furies also enter the story.
Simonson described writing Diana as an exciting opportunity and said that pairing her with Lois Lane was a dream. She also highlighted the addition of Granny Goodness and the Female Furies.
Wonder Woman #41 will run for 32 pages and is due on 20 January 2027 at a price of $4.99. Ryan Sook is credited with the main cover, while variant covers come from Daniel Sampere, David Nakayama, Cian Tormey and Walter Simonson.
Williams’ later arc will centre on a team-up between Diana and Nubia. Williams said the six-issue format gives her space to portray Diana as fierce, funny and compassionate, while also delivering a Nubia story she has wanted to tell. This version of the team-up will not send the characters to Las Vegas.
Why did Tom King’s run divide readers?
Tom King began his Wonder Woman run in 2023 and originally hoped to write 100 issues. He is stepping away as his responsibilities at DC Studios expand, including showrunning an upcoming animated Mister Miracle series. King is known for comics such as Mister Miracle and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and he recently co-created the HBO series Lanterns.
King’s work has earned critical praise, but his approach has also split DC readers. Some objected to his interpretation of Diana, considered the dialogue too verbose or felt that established continuity was overlooked. His background as a former CIA officer has also contributed to wider debate around his work.

Could 2027 bring a Wonder Woman film update?
The Year of Wonder may extend beyond comics. DC Studios co-head James Gunn said in 2025 that Ana Nogueira was writing the in-development Wonder Woman film. However, important details remain unconfirmed, including which actor will succeed Gal Gadot as Diana.
As DC builds its 2027 plans, Wonder Woman readers can expect at least two defined comic arcs, a new group of creative teams and more announcements throughout the year. Those following the wider DCU can also keep an eye on Wonder Woman’s DCU developments.
