Marvel Rivals is revisiting one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest battles with a new limited-time event inspired by Avengers: Endgame. As part of the lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday, the game will bring together 50 players for a large-scale confrontation with Thanos and his alien army.

The Path to Doomsday – Avengers: Endgame event begins on October 24. Its central encounter places the full group against a giant version of Thanos, whose increased size should give every player a clearer target during the fight.

Thanos is not simply a larger enemy, however. He can use powerful area-of-effect attacks to damage many heroes at once, including an aerial strike called in from his spacecraft. The trailer shows the attack wiping out large numbers of players simultaneously, making the villain function much like a raid boss.

That raises an obvious question: how much coordination will a 50-player team need? Thanos appears capable of absorbing a substantial amount of punishment, but the scale of the encounter could also turn the event into a chaotic mass battle rather than a tightly organised raid.

Winning the match appears to lead into a recreation of the film’s closing moment, with Tony Stark wielding the Infinity Gauntlet and using its power to erase Thanos. It is a fitting reward for an event built around Endgame’s climactic final battle.

Whether the spectacle is enough to bring former players back to Marvel Rivals remains to be seen, but the event gives the hero shooter an unusually large-scale way to celebrate Marvel’s cinematic history.
