Red Rising is coming to digital platforms in 2027. Emerald City Games, a Canadian studio, is developing the adaptation of the acclaimed tabletop game based on Pierce Brown’s Mars-set science-fiction saga.

From Mars revolution to tabletop strategy
Pierce Brown’s six-book Red Rising series takes place within a strict colour-coded hierarchy on Mars. Golds occupy the ruling class, while Reds sit at the bottom of society. Darrow, a Red miner, becomes a leading figure in the rebellion against that system.
Jamey Stegmaier of Stonemaier Games brought the setting to the tabletop in 2021. The board game draws heavily on the first three books, placing players in control of rival Houses as they manage cards and followers while attempting to gain influence.

What to expect from the 2027 release
Emerald City Games’ project is an official digital version of the board game for one to six players. Its central system remains focused on recruiting followers from rival Houses, including Gold and Red characters, through a deck containing all 112 unique cards.
The digital format will preserve the original tabletop rules while adding features designed for computer play. These include a challenging AI mode for solo sessions, multiplayer for up to six players across platforms, dynamic effects, animations and custom voice lines.

A faithful adaptation with digital extras
The developers are aiming to reproduce the board game closely rather than create a separate interpretation of the novels. House rivalries, card management and the colour caste system remain at the centre, with the digital version providing a new way to handle presentation and play.
For readers following developments across the wider arcade and gaming news space, Red Rising is another example of a tabletop property moving into a digital format. Fans considering how different screen-based experiences fit into a home entertainment room can also browse RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide or explore arcade machines.
Release timing and demo
Red Rising is scheduled to launch in 2027, but no more specific release date has been announced. A playable demo is available for an early look at Emerald City Games’ approach. Players can download the Red Rising demo on Steam.
The adaptation combines House-based competition, card-driven decisions and science-fiction world-building. Its key test will be whether the digital presentation, solo AI and multiplayer options add convenience without losing the strategic character of the original board game.
