Peter Jackson has offered a fresh update on the long-delayed Tintin sequel, confirming that the project remains active and that he intends to direct it as his next film.

The follow-up to The Adventures of Tintin was announced after Steven Spielberg’s 2011 film. Spielberg and Jackson originally expected the sequel to arrive around 2014 or 2015, but that schedule passed without the movie entering production.
Jackson says Tintin 2 is his next film
Speaking at the Sitges Film Festival in Spain, an event focused on fantasy, horror and cult cinema, Jackson said the screenplay has already been written.
“We’ve also already written the script for Tintin 2, the second Tintin film. That will be the next film I make.”
The statement follows comments Jackson made in May, when he ended several quiet years by confirming that a version of the script was complete and that he would direct the film.

The 2011 Tintin film adapts the long-running comic series created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. The comics ran in France from 1929 to 1976 and centre on Tintin, a Belgian reporter, and his dog Snowy.
In Spielberg’s film, Tintin becomes involved in a search for the treasure of the legendary naval ship Unicorn. Jackson’s new update provides no release date or production timetable for the sequel.
New Lord of the Rings films are also moving forward
Jackson also discussed the next projects set in Middle-earth. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is close to completing filming, with approximately two weeks of shooting still remaining.

The film follows Aragorn as he searches for Gollum on Gandalf’s behalf, before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. Andy Serkis is directing and will reprise his role as Gollum. The film is scheduled for release on 17 December 2027.
Jackson further confirmed that The Shadow of the Past remains in development and is currently at the scriptwriting stage. The story is set 14 years after Frodo leaves Middle-earth for Valinor, with Sam, Merry and Pippin revisiting the opening steps of their earlier adventure.
Stephen Colbert and Philippa Boyens are developing the screenplay. Reports had suggested that the project was at risk following the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros., but Jackson has rejected that claim.
