Shrek 2: Remastered has surfaced following two separate leaks, confirming that the 2004 four-player platformer is being prepared for modern consoles. Its achievements first appeared in a leaking last month, before an Xbox store listing appeared ahead of an official announcement.

The prematurely published listing included screenshots, a pre-order trailer and details about the remaster’s updates. The game is set to receive improved textures, a redesigned user interface and 4K resolution, alongside a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode that allows players to alter aspects of the experience.

Co-operative play is also being expanded. Players will be able to tackle the adventure through local co-op or connect online, making the game accessible both to families playing together and to friends revisiting it from different locations.

The remaster follows the broad storyline of the 2004 Shrek 2 film, while adding sections that take place beyond the movie’s events. That structure gives the game room to expand the film’s world rather than simply reproduce its plot.

A new version of the game may seem unexpected, but the timing could connect with the upcoming Shrek 5. The original was also remembered fondly by players who experienced its co-operative campaign when it first arrived, giving the remaster a clear audience among returning fans and families discovering it for the first time.

The Xbox store page and trailer do not provide a launch date. With the listing and promotional material already visible, further release information may not be far away.
