Steam Next Fest Returns on 19 October with Free Demos

October 16, 2026

Steam Next Fest returns this October

Steam Next Fest is back for its October edition, giving PC players an opportunity to sample a large selection of upcoming games through free demos. The event runs from 19 to 26 October 2026.

For players who enjoy exploring a broad range of genres rather than committing to only a few releases, the festival offers a useful way to discover unusual and promising projects before launch. You can browse the event through the RETROCADE arcade blog for more gaming news and industry coverage.

What to expect from the October festival

Steam hosts Next Fest several times each year. The October event is the third edition scheduled for 2026, following festivals held in February and June. Both earlier events featured a substantial number of playable demos, and the October programme is expected to offer another wide selection.

Previous festivals have highlighted games that later became highly anticipated independent releases. The June edition brought attention to Penguin Colony and Over The Hill, while February introduced players to Denshattack!, Titanium Court and Vampire Crawlers. Those three games are among the writer’s leading contenders for a 2026 game of the year list.

Games to watch during Next Fest

Several titles have already been identified as part of the October event. Emberville is presented as a farming-game experience with similarities to Stardew Valley, while Drunken Goddess Reflux offers a Russian Roulette drinking game concept. The latter has already passed 500,000 wishlists.

Another unusual prospect is We Are So Cooked, a multiplayer game centred on hiding dead bodies with friends. Demos are also available ahead of the main event for Ace & Aro: Heart-to-Heart and the visually distinctive Fallgrade.

When does Steam Next Fest start?

Steam Next Fest begins on 19 October at 1 p.m. EDT and concludes on 26 October. Australian players should check the local conversion for their state and time zone before planning a demo session.

With dozens of demos competing for attention, it may help to make a shortlist before the festival begins. Players setting up a dedicated gaming space can also browse RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide or explore compact bartop arcades for a separate way to enjoy games at home.
