Rockstar Games has released the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, complete with action, romance and one remarkably familiar sign-off. After scenes featuring Jason and Lucia, the trailer closes with the deep-voiced announcement that has become part of the series’ identity.
Released on October 15, the trailer appears designed for widespread advertising, including television. Unlike several earlier GTA 6 trailers, it ends with a narrator confirming the game’s title, release date and ESRB rating.
For all the longtime GTA fans, the voice is instantly recognisable. Since Grand Theft Auto 3, launch trailers have repeatedly used what sounds like the same announcer to deliver the title at the very end.
The formula was still taking shape in the trailers for GTA 3 and Vice City. By San Andreas, however, the familiar “GRAND THEFT AUTO…” declaration had become a fully established part of the presentation.
The same style of narration subsequently appeared in launch trailers for Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, GTA IV and GTA V. Rockstar also used it for the launch trailers of the following entries:
- Grand Theft Auto 6
- Another title represented by the supplied trailer media
The new trailer’s closing announcement is: “GRAND THEFT AUTO 6. COMING NOVEMBER 19. RATED M FOR MATURE.” Hearing that familiar delivery again created an unexpectedly powerful response.
It brought to mind the famous moment in Ratatouille when a critic tastes a dish from childhood and is suddenly transported back in time. For a moment, the trailer viewer is no longer an adult waiting for a major release, but a 13-year-old watching a small television and hearing an advertisement for the next GTA game.
That voice has traditionally carried a sense of finality. Rockstar tends to use it when a game is ready for its launch campaign, so its return feels reassuring for anyone concerned about another delay. Based on the announcement in this trailer, Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to arrive on November 19.
