Diablo 5 has reached an important development milestone, although Blizzard’s next action RPG remains several years from release. The game was announced at this year’s BlizzCon with a planned launch in spring 2029.

Development now appears to have moved into cinematic production. Neil David Carter, the game’s cinematic director, shared a photograph of an empty motion-capture studio with the caption “First shoot #Diablo5.” The image reveals no meaningful story details, but filming indicates that work on the game’s cutscenes is under way.
Carter’s post prompted fans to examine the studio image for clues, although any text visible on the screens is difficult to read.

What the milestone means for Diablo 5
Motion capture can support several forms of game animation, so filming alone does not confirm that every part of the story is finished. However, the update coming from the cinematic director strongly suggests that narrative scenes are currently a major focus.
For players following the wider arcade and gaming news landscape, this is a useful reminder that a confirmed release window does not mean a project is close to launch. Blizzard has set spring 2029 as the target, giving the studio substantial time to develop the game.
A century after Diablo 4

The initial announcement established that Diablo 5 will take place 100 years after the events of Diablo 4. Sanctuary has fallen, while Diablo himself returns after apparently winning the long conflict between good and evil.
This post-apocalyptic setting is intended to give players a new challenge rather than simply revisit the circumstances of the previous game. Blizzard has not provided further story details in the material available so far.
Diablo 4 support is continuing
The current instalment is still receiving updates, including the Lord of Hatred expansion, which released this year. The announcement of its successor caused concern among some players that support for Diablo 4 would wind down early.
Blizzard has since stated that it plans to continue supporting Diablo 4 after Diablo 5 launches, provided that the player base remains active. If the current schedule holds, the new game will arrive six years after Diablo 4.
