Marvel has already identified several performers expected to appear when the studio’s X-Men reboot arrives in 2028. Sadie Sink has reportedly debuted as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, while Inde Navarrette is set to play Rogue, Maya Boyd will portray Storm, Christopher Abbot is Professor X, Kit Connor is Cyclops and Samara Weaving is Emma Frost. Adam Driver is also attached as the villainous Mr. Sinister.

That still leaves plenty of mutant characters unaccounted for—and Cody Rhodes may have created fresh speculation about one of them.

What Cody Rhodes appeared to say

Rhodes, the WWE wrestler making his film debut as Guile in the new Street Fighter movie, has been promoting the release alongside his co-stars. During an interview with Nerdist, a comment made at roughly the 1:29 mark sounded remarkably like “I’m in X-Men.”

Andrew Schulz immediately asked, “Wait, you are?” He then said he thought Rhodes had just made an announcement. Rhodes continued the conversation without visibly acknowledging the interruption, leaving viewers to decide whether it was a genuine slip, a misunderstanding or simply a joke.

The clip is the kind of entertainment rumour that can spread quickly—much like the latest stories collected in RETROCADE’s arcade blog—but it does not confirm a Marvel casting decision.

A second suspicious exchange

This is not the only moment that has prompted fans to connect Rhodes with the mutant franchise. During an appearance on Schulz’s Flagrant podcast, Schulz joked about Rogue’s power to absorb abilities before turning to Rhodes and asking which franchise Rogue belongs to.

Rhodes avoided answering directly and appeared to redirect the conversation towards the cigars being enjoyed by the group. The awkward exchange has encouraged further speculation, although it remains circumstantial rather than an official reveal.

Which mutant could Rhodes play?

If Rhodes has secured a role, fans have plenty of physically imposing characters to consider. Colossus, Cable, Havok and Iceman are among the possibilities, though Marvel could just as easily be keeping a less prominent character secret.

An announcement could arrive in the future, but there is currently no confirmed information identifying Rhodes as a member of the X-Men cast. Until then, the rumour is best treated as unverified fan speculation—not something to base a buying decision for an arcade machine on.

Marvel’s immediate priorities

For now, Marvel’s attention is focused largely on December’s Avengers: Doomsday. The Disney+ series VisionQuest also premiered this week and has received a positive early reaction in the supplied coverage.

As fans wait for clearer news, the crossover between wrestling, video-game adaptations and superhero cinema continues to produce plenty of intriguing possibilities. Readers following the wider gaming side of that conversation can also browse RETROCADE’s range of arcade machines.
