Fast travel in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is unavailable during the opening section, so revisiting earlier locations means travelling on foot. The feature becomes available after a significant story milestone and lets you return to previously visited areas.
If you are still exploring Paris and wondering when the backtracking will become easier, here is the route to unlocking the Boatman’s ferry service.

How to unlock fast travel
Fast travel unlocks automatically when you meet the Boatman in the Catacombs. Reaching him requires several major objectives first: defeat Medusa, Joan at the top of Prison Tower, and The Fallen around Paris, then collect their emblems.
Once those three bosses have been defeated and their emblems obtained, the route into the Catacombs becomes accessible. The area is large, but there is only one way down. Follow the green wall markers if you lose your bearings.

Reaching the Boatman
As you descend, open the paths leading back to the mirror room. Doing so creates a useful connection to the elevator, making it much quicker to travel between the surface and the deeper sections of the Catacombs.
At the bottom, you will encounter Death. This confrontation is unavoidable, but it is also scripted as a loss: the battle ends as soon as Death touches you, which happens roughly two seconds after it begins.

After several cutscenes, you must guide Rose back through the Catacombs. The return journey includes wall-jumping and sections where you need to avoid spikes, but it is shorter and more manageable than the descent may suggest.
How the ferry service works
When you reach the Death’s Throat area again, look for the door ahead. It is the only route forward, so it cannot be missed. Open it to meet the Boatman and gain access to fast travel.
The Boatman can take you to any area you have already visited in Paris, as well as the zone that becomes available after the battle with Death. From that point onwards, returning to earlier locations to search for missed treasures is far less time-consuming.
