The Mummy franchise will return to cinemas on 15 October 2027, exactly one year after the title announcement. Universal Pictures has now confirmed the next film will be called The Mummy: Book of the Dead.

The fourth film is set to reunite Brendan Fraser as adventurer Rick O’Connell and Rachel Weisz as Evie Carnahan. Weisz did not appear in the third film, where Maria Bello played Evie instead. Recent set photographs suggest the new story may be set during the late 1950s, while other images have shown Fraser’s updated look as O’Connell.

Will Imhotep return in The Mummy: Book of the Dead?
The subtitle points towards the series’ supernatural mythology. The first two films focused on Imhotep and his attempts to return from the dead, with the Book of the Dead playing a central role in his resurrection. That makes it reasonable to wonder whether the ancient villain will once again be part of the story.
Oded Fehr is returning as Ardeth Bay, the Medjai warrior who helps protect the world from Imhotep. His involvement suggests that the new film could revisit the threat, although no official plot details have been released.
Kevin J. O’Connor is also reprising his role as Beni. The character appeared to die in the first film, but his return raises the possibility that he survived and could once again be connected to Imhotep’s plans.

What we know about the returning cast
Arnold Vosloo, who played Imhotep, has not officially been confirmed for the sequel. However, John Hannah, who played Jonathan Carnahan, said earlier in the year that Vosloo would return.
More information should emerge as production continues and trailers arrive. Until then, the confirmed release date, returning cast members and mysterious subtitle give fans plenty to speculate about. Movie-inspired themes also remain a natural fit for a home entertainment setup, alongside full-size arcade machines and compact bartop arcades.

Readers planning a dedicated games room can compare options in the arcade machine buying guide or explore arcade light-gun machines for cinematic shooting action.
