A new update for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 has addressed the visual problems introduced by the previous patch. The fix comes after players reported that the open-world RPG had become noticeably blurrier and suffered from ghosting.

The situation is a useful reminder that even modern updates can create unexpected problems, much like the hardware and software issues covered in RETROCADE’s arcade gaming news.

A follow-up patch fixes the visual downgrade

A small update released in late September was expected to deliver routine bug fixes. Instead, Switch 2 players began reporting a range of visual issues after installing it, including increased blur and ghosting across the game.

The changes were serious enough that some players avoided updating their copies of Oblivion Remastered altogether. Bethesda has now issued a follow-up update intended to restore the presentation seen before the September release.

Players report a return to the earlier image quality

On October 13, Bethesda pushed out a new update for Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2, describing the problem as a “global visual degradation issue discovered in the previous update”.

Players who have downloaded the new update report that the game now looks much closer to how it appeared before the September patch. Some have even suggested that performance may be slightly better than it was previously, although those reports are based on player observations.

The replacement patch is also reportedly larger than some expected. Bethesda has not explained what caused the earlier visual problems or why the corrective update required its reported size.

Switch 2 players can install the latest update

For Switch 2 owners who held back from the previous release, the latest patch should resolve the issue that affected the game’s overall image quality. Players interested in dedicated gaming setups can also browse RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide or explore the available arcade machines.
