‘Homesick’ is a Chapter 4 side quest in Valor Mortis that sends you beneath The Caverns to investigate a missing father. This walkthrough explains how to begin the quest, navigate the hidden cave and claim its rewards.
How to start ‘Homesick’ in Valor Mortis
The quest becomes available after you defeat The Iron Marshall, find Louis and return to the Abandoned Church. You will then enter a new region called The Caverns.
From the campfire, enter the first tunnel behind the Last Sunlight Lantern. Listen to the woman’s ghost, then collect the Longing Wife Letter behind her. Picking up this letter starts the ‘Homesick’ side quest.
Your objective is to discover why the father never made it back to his family. The evidence you need is located in an optional cave area beneath the main chamber.
‘Homesick’ quest walkthrough
Enter the large cavern ahead and prepare for several undead enemies. Most of the opposition consists of ordinary zombie farmers, but an elite enemy is resting beside the campfire on the left.
Look up for the enemy on the ceiling that spits poison. Shoot it while it is forming a poison orb, before it can launch the attack.
The cavern floor contains several holes. Avoid them all except the opening in the far-left corner. The correct drop is identifiable by the torchlight visible below.
Reach the underground quay
Drop through the torchlit opening to reach an underground quay populated by enemies near the boats. Do not use the grappling point, as it is a trap.
Instead, climb the ledge on the right and shoot the red explosive barrel. The blast should eliminate several weaker enemies, allowing you to deal with the remaining threats from a safer position.
On the left, you will encounter a Risen Grenadier. Rather than engage it directly, wait until it stands beneath the glowing orb on the ceiling. Shoot the orb to crush the Grenadier.
Find the Death Notice
Search the boat behind the defeated Risen Grenadier and collect the Death Notice. While you are there, open the nearby treasure chest to obtain the Lucky Shot amber.
Return to the campfire where you first encountered the ghosts. Read the Death Notice aloud to finish the ‘Homesick’ side quest.
Completing the quest awards 2,000 catalysts and the Bottomless Well amber.
