The planned Life Is Strange television adaptation has completed filming, moving the Prime Video project one step closer to release. Amazon MGM and Square Enix announced the series just over a year ago, but a premiere window has still not been confirmed.

The production milestone was shared by cinematographer Vincent De Paula on Instagram. His post used a Polaroid-style collage featuring behind-the-scenes images, the two lead actors and artwork from the original game. The caption said the team could not wait to show audiences what it had made.

The timing was notable: the filming announcement arrived during the same week in which the game’s story takes place, from October 7 to 11.
Who is making the Life Is Strange series?
Charlie Covell, known for The End of the F***ing World, is writing the adaptation and will also act as its showrunner and executive producer. Maisy Stella will play Chloe, while Tatum Grace Hopkins will portray Max.
The supporting cast includes Tom Cullen, Leisha Hailey, Raúl Castillo, Owen Teague, Billy Barratt, Emily Carey, Esther McGregor, Faly Rakotohavana and Mia Isaac. Karyn Kusama, whose credits include Jennifer’s Body and Yellowjackets, is directing the first two episodes.

Amazon and Square Enix have not yet announced the total episode count or a release window. For fans following game-to-screen projects, the completed shoot is an important production update, but it does not confirm when Australian viewers will be able to watch the series.
Where the games stand
Life Is Strange: Reunion launched this year as a follow-up to both the 2015 original and 2024’s Double Exposure. It brought Max and Chloe back together and was presented as the conclusion to their story in the games.

The game also attempted to address fan criticism of how the pair’s relationship was handled in Double Exposure. Reviews were divided. Some critics disliked the story’s almost fan-fiction-like effort to give Max and Chloe a neat resolution, while others considered it the ending the characters deserved.
Although Reunion closes Max and Chloe’s game storyline, the future of the broader franchise remains uncertain. Square Enix has said the title exceeded its sales expectations, although those expectations were reportedly low after Double Exposure performed poorly. No further game has been announced, leaving the television series as a possible way to renew interest in the property.
A franchise in transition
The new series arrives as the franchise moves between interactive storytelling and television drama. Its completed production provides a clearer picture of the adaptation’s progress, while the unanswered release details leave plenty still to be confirmed.
