An unfinished scene reportedly found in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced may connect Edward Kenway’s story to the events leading into Assassin’s Creed III. Its appearance of Miko, combined with a reference to a recently deceased king, has prompted speculation about a possible prequel project.

The scene is not currently available to watch. A video showing the material was reportedly removed after Ubisoft issued a copyright strike.

According to the reported footage, Edward enters a bar and speaks with Miko, a co-founder of the British Brotherhood of Assassins who is primarily associated with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Miko says he has “put out a call to the wider Brotherhood”, before the scene cuts to Adéwalé.

Adéwalé’s presence could initially suggest a connection to Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry, the expansion originally included with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s 2013 season pass. However, the dialogue appears to create a timeline problem.

Community discussion pointed out that Miko opens by telling Edward, “The king is dead.” Black Flag Resynced concludes in 1722, while Freedom Cry begins in 1735—the same year Edward is canonically killed. That makes George I of Great Britain, who died in 1727, the most likely monarch referenced by the line.

The reported video was taken down by Ubisoft itself, according to a post from the account that shared it.

The theory becomes more interesting when Haytham Kenway is considered. Haytham, the antagonist of Assassin’s Creed III and Edward’s son, was born in 1725. The disputed scene could therefore fit within the period between Haytham’s birth and Edward’s death.

That decade is only lightly explored in established material. The book Assassin’s Creed: Forsaken, presented as Haytham’s in-universe diary, supplies the main known account of his life, but gives limited coverage to the years from 1725 to 1735.

There is also a direct character connection: Haytham assassinates Miko during the prologue of Assassin’s Creed III. A story involving Edward, Miko and the Brotherhood could consequently provide a bridge into Haytham’s early life and the opening chapters of the later game.

Still, the evidence does not confirm a new project. The cutscene reportedly does not appear in the files of the original 2013 release of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, suggesting it may have been created specifically for Black Flag Resynced before being abandoned.

One possibility is that Ubisoft changed direction. Another is that the material was designed as an early teaser for a future Assassin’s Creed story. Edward’s voice actor, Matt Ryan, returned to record dialogue for Black Flag Resynced, so the unused scene could have been produced as part of broader plans. It is also possible that a completed version might eventually appear in a Resynced edition of Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry, although that remains speculation.
