Disney has officially confirmed a new animated Artemis Fowl series for Disney Channel and Disney+, bringing Eoin Colfer’s fantasy adventure books back to the screen.
The announcement was made by Colfer during the 25 Years of Artemis Fowl panel at New York Comic Con. Disney says the series will explore the characters and mythology of the novels in greater depth.
What the new Artemis Fowl series is about
Artemis Fowl centres on Artemis Fowl II, a 13-year-old genius who discovers a hidden civilisation of technologically advanced, heavily armed fairies beneath the human world.
Artemis devises a plan to harness fairy magic in an attempt to heal his dying mother and protect his family. The story combines fantasy, adventure and high-tech criminal intrigue, making the property a natural fit for fans of imaginative genre entertainment.

Creative team announced
Colfer will serve as an executive producer alongside Ben Juwono and Colleen Evanson. Juwono is an Emmy and Annie Award winner known for Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur and Big Hero 6: The Series. Evanson’s credits include DuckTales and Monsters at Work.
Colfer said he was proud to join the team bringing the animated version to the screen, adding that the project’s talented and positive creative group had left him confident the fairy world was in capable hands.
A long-running book series gets another adaptation
The first Artemis Fowl novel arrived in 2001. Colfer has since published 11 books in the main series, along with a short story and a companion book. The books have sold more than 35 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 48 languages.
Disney previously made a live-action film based on the books. It was released directly on Disney+ in 2020, received broadly negative reviews and was later removed from the streaming service.

Disney has not announced a release date for the new animated Artemis Fowl series. The project is intended for both Disney Channel and Disney+, but further details about its episode count, voice cast and production schedule have not been provided.
