Long-time Call of Duty esports commentator Clint “Maven” Evans is stepping away from the competitive scene after confirming that he is in a relationship with Maurisa, the former wife of his long-time casting partner, Joseph “MerK” DeLuca.

Evans said he will leave Call of Duty shoutcasting “for the foreseeable future”. In a Twitter post, he described the relationship as “unconventional/taboo” and explained that he had been close to DeLuca and his family for years.

Evans said Maurisa was one of his best friends. Following her divorce from DeLuca, the pair remained friends before their relationship developed into something more.

“I’ll be stepping away from the CDL for the foreseeable future.”

Evans also said he had been close to his casting partner Joe and the DeLuca family, adding that his friendship with Maurisa eventually became a relationship.

The announcement does not clarify whether Evans was asked to leave by the official Call of Duty League or made the decision himself. He asked fans to continue supporting the league and DeLuca, while leaving open the possibility of returning to competitive commentary at some point. He also acknowledged that a comeback may never happen.

Online reaction follows the announcement

The personal news has prompted renewed attention to older moments from Evans and DeLuca’s time working together. Some fans have revisited their on-air interactions and shared clips that they believe now carry a different meaning.

Commentary on social media has included jokes and speculation, including posts from other users highlighting past broadcasts. Those reactions should be treated as internet commentary rather than confirmation of any additional details.

DeLuca does not appear to have issued a public statement about the situation. His social accounts, including Instagram and Twitter, have reportedly received messages of support alongside the expected wave of online jokes.

A notable change for Call of Duty esports

Evans’ departure removes a familiar voice from the Call of Duty broadcast scene, although his statement does not provide details about any immediate changes to league coverage. For more gaming and industry updates, explore RETROCADE’s Arcade Blog and arcade video coverage.
